Dartington Hall - Totnes Biomass II

Dartington Hall - Boiler Replacement

Following the success of Biomass I the trust were keen to take advantage of the RHI and reduce further their reliance on fossil fuels.

Aston Cord Energy Services Ltd were appointed to replace an old oil fired boiler and replace it with a modern biomass boiler. The existing boiler had come to the end of its useful life and had been condemned.

To avoid the requirement for planning it was decided that the existing boiler should be removed and the new one installed in its place. Aston Cord Energy Services Ltd undertook all the works and manged the entire project. From appointment to completion the project took just 6 weeks. There was no loss in heating for the site as another oil fired boiler was left in place as redundancy in case of any issues with the biomass boiler.

A Hargasnner 225kW ECO PK (pellet boiler) was chosen as the best boiler for this particular application. The fuel store was sited externally hidden under a concrete canopy within the existing footprint of the building.

Access into the plant room is difficult and to avoid removing an existing wall the boiler was lowered into place with a hi-ab and final positioning undertaken with toe jacks and skates.
